Jamey Johnson

Matthew McConaughey directed his first music video for buddy Jamey Johnson's hit song "Playing the Part."

The movie star and country singer/songwriter first met at the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2009 in Las Vegas when McConaughey stepped backstage to congratulate Johnson on his Song of the Year win for "In Color." The actor confessed his love for the album That Lonesome Song, even quoting lyrics from a few of his favorite tracks. After disclosing their mutual admiration for each other, the two became close friends, and the country star even surprised McConaughey with a performance at his 40th birthday celebration.

McConaughey was the first person to come to mind when discussions began regarding the music video for new album The Guitar Song's lead single, "Playing the Part." While Johnson simply asked the actor to make a cameo appearance in the clip, McConaughey not only accepted to 'play the part' of an actor, but also volunteered himself to be the director of the music video.

Both entertainers share respect for one another, as McConaughey claims that he loves that the country singer's real-life-inspired music is "hard, honest and funny." When asked about working with his actor friend, Johnson reveals that he "couldn't have dreamed anything better."
