Jewel believes she fits in the country genre much better. In fact, she says, “If I was being discovered living in my car today, I think I would definitely be classified as a country artist.” Jewel explains, “Pop music right now has turned very urban and beat-driven and I’ve always been a storyteller. I like a song to have a beginning, middle, and an end. I’m very lyric-driven. And country radio is still a place where the lyric is appreciated and people like to hear a story.” Jewel’s debut country album, Perfectly Clear, is scheduled for release on June 3. The CD’s first single, “Stronger Woman,” has already made a splash onto the country charts.
