Gwyneth Paltrow Gets Country Strong
The highly anticipated country music-inspired film, Country Strong, premiered worldwide on Monday night in Nashville, Tennessee.
In the film, Gwyneth Paltrow plays the role of Kelly Canter, a country singer fresh out of rehab for alcohol addiction who is trying to pull her life together. Real-life country star Tim McGraw - who made a name for himself as an actor in The Blind Side - plays her manager/husband, but seems more interested in treating her as his client than as his wife.
On a comeback tour with her talented opening act (Garrett Hedlund), Paltrow's character hopes to salvage her romantic life and music career, but both are troubled even further with the introduction of beauty-queen-turned-country-starlet Chiles Stanton, played by Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester.
Understanding how devoted country fans are to their music and culture, Paltrow immersed herself in country music in order to be as authentic as possible for the role. To prepare, the actress learned to play the guitar, watched concert DVDs and YouTube clips of country stars and received advice from fellow musicians - including her husband, Coldplay's Chris Martin.
