Country Strong Picks Up Oscar Nod

by admin // Tuesday, January 25, 2011 // News, Videos // 0 Comments

Country Strong earned an Oscar nomination this morning in the Best Original Song category for the film's track "Coming Home."

The nomination honors the song's writers - Tom Douglas, Hillary Lindsey and Troy Varges.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Leighton Meester - who both portray country singers in the film - each perform the song in the movie, but the soundtrack only features the Paltrow version. The actress describes the song as "emotional to sing," and claims it is her favorite song in the film.

Other nominees in the category include "I See the Light" from Tangled, "If I Rise" from 127 Hours and "We Belong Together" for Toy Story 3.

This isn't the first year that country music has been a strong contender at the Academy Awards - last year's winners of the Best Original Song Oscar were Ryan Bingham and T Bone Burnett for "The Weary Kind," from the film Crazy Heart.

Country Strong is in theaters now. Tune into the Oscars on February 27th to see who takes home the award!
