Billy Ray Cyrus Speak Out About Miley
He tells GQ Magazine, "I'm scared for [Miley]. She's got a lot of people around her that's putting her in a great deal of danger. I know she's 18, but I still feel like as her daddy I'd like to try to help. At least get her out of danger. I want to get her sheltered from the storm. Stop the insanity just for a minute."
As the star of Hannah Montana - one of Disney's most popular television shows - Miley has been raising parents' eyebrows for a few years now with her provocative pictures and videos and sexier scandals. She has been the center of controversy multiple times now, from her topless Vanity Fair cover to her pole dancing routine at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards. The star was most recently given beef about a video that shows her smoking what is reported to be legal hallucinogen, salvia, from a bong.
Not surprisingly, the finger has been pointed at Billy Ray as the culprit of these scandals and continues to be criticized as a parent. He reveals, "Well, I took it, because I'm here daddy, and that's what daddies do...Okay, nail me to the cross. I'll take it."
Billy Ray normally desn't speak out against his daughter's antics, but he did after her recent party bong scandal at her 18th birthday, which he decided not to attend. He admits, "It was wrong. It was for 21 years old and up...I said, 'This whole thing's falling apart up there and they just want to blame all of this stuff on you again.' I'm staying out of it."
The famous father goes on to talk about the Hollywood tragedies of stars like Kurt Kobain, Anna Nicole Smith and Michael Jackson, saying, "I'm concerned about Miley. I think that [Cobain's] world was just spinning so fast and he had so many people around him that didn't help him. Like Anna Nicole Smith - you could see that train wreck coming....Michael Jackson - I was trying to reach out to Michael Jackson."
Cryus also admits to playing a part in his daughter's troubles. He shares, "I should have been a better parent. I should have said, 'Enough is enough - it's getting dangerous and somebody's going to get hurt.' I should have, but I didn't....Honestly, I didn't know the ball was out of bounds til it was way up in the stands somewhere."
Billy Ray, who actually played Hannah Montana's father on the Disney series, shares his opinion on the TV show that launched Miley to stardom. He said that it "destroyed my family...the damn show destroyed my family...It's all sad."
Would he go so far as wishing that she had never been cast on the series? Billy Ray admits, "I hate to say it, but yes, I do. Yeah. I'd take it back in a second. For my family to bee here and just everybody be okay, safe and sound, and happy and normal, would have been fantastic. Heck, yeah. I'd erase it all in a second if I could."
