Alan Jackson and Reba McEntire took top honors at Monday night's 46th Annual ASCAP Country Music Awards in Nashville. The songwriters' rights organization named Alan Songwriter Artist of the Year, being honored for two of his hits, "A Woman's Love" and "Small Town Southern Man." Reba received the highly coveted Golden Note Award, which is presented to songwriters, composers and artists who have achieved "extraordinary career milestones." Brooks & Dunn, LeAnn Rimes and Kelly Clarkson paid musical tribute to McEntire before she herself surprised the crowd by performing one of her earliest hits, "(You Lift Me Up) To Heaven." Meanwhile, Songwriter of the Year honors went to Dave Berg, whose hits include Rodney Atkins' "These Are My People," Blake Shelton's "Don't Make Me," Emerson Drive's "Moments" and Chris Cagle's "What Kinda Gone." In addition, the Billy Currington hit "Good Directions" won songwriter Rachel Thibodeau the Song of the Year prize.
