Country music legend Charlie Daniels and The Charlie Daniels Band will have a starring role in ESPN’s Monday Night Football “open” tonight when Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos travel to Atlanta to face Matt Ryan and the Falcons (Sept. 17, 8:30 p.m. ET).
The open will feature Daniels’ 1979 hit song The Devil Went Down to Georgia.
Originally written as a narrative about the Devil, who comes to Georgia to procure souls, Daniels recorded new lyrics for the song this week at Twin Pines Studio in Mt. Juliet, Tenn., that highlight the MNF matchup and both teams’ star quarterbacks.
Said Daniels: “I’ve been watching Monday Night Football since it started and to be a part of it kind of makes me feel proud. I had to watch the lyrics real close because I’ve done those same Devil Went Down To Georgia lyrics for 33 years.”
The original version of the song, released by Epic Records, spent 14 weeks on the Hot Country Singles charts in 1979, peaking at No. 1.
“We’re excited to be in Atlanta this week for Peyton Manning and the Broncos’ first road game of the season, and to kick off the telecast with Charlie Daniels’ iconic song seemed like a perfect fit,” said ESPN’s MNF producer Jay Rothman.
“This is one of the fun things about having a new themed open each week. It gives us a blank canvas to be creative and incorporate athletes, celebrities, musicians and others depending on the storylines of the game. We hope fans like it.”

We just checked out #CitiScape headphones while programming some of your favorite country artists!

Comfort is a big one here! The padding is very soft but seems as if it will hold up well. Isolation is very good (for better or worse, depending on they environment you wear them). Cord is flat and doesn't get tangled easily. It is definitely stronger than most headphone/earbud cords at this or higher prices. The headband is metal!

Best of all they are VERY light and GREAT for traveling and jamming to your favorite country tunes!

Middle Tennessee native and country music star Chris Young gave his fans a special treat yesterday when he announced via exclusive video that he will make his first Nashville headlining appearance from the Mother Church of Country Music, the historic Ryman Auditorium, on November 15, 2012.

The premiere headlining appearance, which includes special guests Thomas Rhett and Joanna Smith, is the first stop on Chris' upcoming Liquid Neon Tour and adds to an already stellar year of high profile TV performances, hit singles, and awards nominations for the baritone-voiced singer.

Tickets go on sale on Friday, September 14th at 10AM Central and are available via the Ryman box office, ryman.com, Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com, or by calling 800-745-3000.

While Young has played the Ryman as part of the Grand Ole Opry, this historic show will mark his headlining debut on the celebrated stage. Born and raised in Murfreesboro, this momentous occasion holds a special place in the heart of this middle Tennessee native.

"The first time I set foot on the Ryman stage was an unbelievable experience," says Young. "I am so grateful for the support of my hometown crowd all of these years and saying I can't wait for this show is an obvious understatement."

Additional information on the Liquid Neon Tour will be announced in the coming weeks. Special guests on the tour include Thomas Rhett, whose Valory Music Co. released self-titled debut EP includes hits "Beer With Jesus" and the Top 15 track "Something To Do With My Hands." RCA recording artist and Young's label mate, Joanna Smith, will open the shows.
