New Orleans native Lloyd Harlin Polite Jr. - known simply by the stage name Lloyd (not to be confused with G-Unit rapper Lloyd Banks) - is an R&B artist signed to Ja Rule’s The Inc. Records. Born in 1986, he got his start singing in church, where he was discovered in 1996 at the age of 11 by DreamWorks Records talent scout Joyce Irby. Joyce convinced Lloyd to join N-Toon, an all-boys singing group inspired by the recent success of the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC. Though N-Toon would eventually release the album Toon Time in 2000, it performed poorly and the group broke up soon after its release.

After having some difficulty securing a label for his solo debut (spending a short time with both Geffen Records and MCA), he eventually signed to The Inc. Records in 2004, releasing his first album Southside later that year. Southside performed modestly on the Billboard 200 - only moving about 350,000 units - but spawned a number of hit singles, including "Hey Young Girl" and "Southside", a duet with labelmate Ashanti. Lloyd toured extensively throughout most of 2005, returning to the studio in 2006 to begin recording his second album, Street Love, which dropped in early 2007.

A far more successful endeavor than its predecessor, Street Love’s success is often attributed to Memphis-based producer Jazzy Pha (Aaliyah, Bow Wow, Ginuwine), who helmed the project. The critically-acclaimed album rose to the second spot on the Billboard 200 in its first week on store shelves, earning a Platinum certification by the RIAA within a year. Hit songs from Street Love include "Valentine", "Get It Shawty", and "You", which features fellow New Orleans sensation Lil’ Wayne. Lloyd plans to release a third album, Lessons in Love, in late 2008. Rumor has it that an all-star cast of performers is set to appear on the album, with Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, Slim Thug, Fabolous, and Nelly all scheduled to stop by for Lloyd’s hotly anticipated third release.
