Nahum Grymes, informally known as “J. Holday”, was born in Washington D.C. and is an American R&B singer who is known for his laid-back demeanor and honey-drenched beats. He first gained notoriety with his smash hit Bed, which reached the number five spot on the Billboard Hot 100 list and number one on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop songs chart. Back of my Lac’, his debut album, has recently gone Gold in America with sales exceeding 500,000 copies. The follow up single to “Bed,” entitled “Suffocate”, has done marginally well, peaking at number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100. Capitol recently re-released Back of my Lac’, adding an additional three tracks and a DVD complete with a selection of videos. This was greeted with largely positive reviews.

"Rhythm and Blues is lacking storytellers right now," he said during one interview. He continued with, "Where's our generations' “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay?“ Lately, it seems hip-hop has been birthing all of the great storytellers. It's time to show that R&B is way more than just dance music. That's what I'm trying to convey with my music. I won't settle for less." With such an ambitious goal in mind, J Holiday may at first appear to be slightly ostentatious - but he is far from it. He works diligently with his art in an attempt to “tell a story”, his success apparent in his already impressive record sales. For such a new face on the R&B scene, he is already well establish and enjoys a loyal fan base. His potential and works to come is a truly exciting vision.

His most recent collaboration was with New York rapper Fat Joe on his latest album, The Elephant In The Room. The single, entitled Be With Me, features the two chilling out in a nightclub with all the fly honies checking them out.

From Lastfm:

J. Holiday doesn?t pull any punches when he offers his take on the current state of R&B. ?Rhythm and Blues is lacking storytellers right now,? insists the candid 22-year-old singer/songwriter. Holiday then pauses, name checks the late legendary singer Otis Redding as if to show his soul credentials and asks, ?Where?s our generations? ?Sitting on the Dock of the Bay?? Lately, it seems hip-hop has been birthing all of the great storytellers. It?s time to show that R&B is way more than just dance music. That?s what I?m trying to convey with my music. I won?t settle for less.?
