Hailing from Western Kentucky, Grizzly Mountain Revival?s unique Americana/Alternative Country sound has already begun to build a dedicated fan base while making waves in the local music scene. The four members of GMR came together with one very simple goal; to make good music, the kind of music that moves people. Fueled by this premise GMR has built an eclectic catalog of original songs as well as wrapping their own style around popular cover songs that all come together for an extremely energetic, passionate live show. ?Its all about the songs,? says front man Josh Helms, ?I pour a lot of emotion into writing the songs then I bring them to the band and before I know it we have worked out something that feels a little like magic, it?s a good process.?
GMR?s current EP is filled with powerful lyrics and catchy melodies that weave through a musical foundation that includes banjo, harmonica, lap steel, and even a jew?s harp when necessary. Recorded in just a few days, the entire collection carries a raw, earthy vibe reminiscent of Ryan Adam?s Heartbreaker album with acoustic qualities that bring to mind The Avett Brothers or Ryan Bingham.
Members of the band include Josh Helms (lead vocals, banjo, harmonica, acoustic guitar) Mike Filbin (bass) Josh Hancock (drums) and Jordan Hancock (lap steel, electric guitar). ?We all met at church,? Helms explains, ?Our first time playing together was with the church band and from that we began getting together to play some of the songs that I was writing and the band as it is now was formed through those meetings.? It did not take long before the individual musical styles of all four guys began coalescing into what has become the ?Grizzly? sound. The lyrics are emotional, the sound is unique but overall it is just good music created by four guys with one goal; to make good music.
