His next album, 1982’s
Strait From The Heart, was just as successful, also selling over 1,000,000 units based on the momentum generated by hit singles
"Amarillo by Morning" and
"Fool Hearted Memory". Strait continued to dominate the country music world throughout the 1980’s, winning the
Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year award twice, and penning hit singles
"The Chair",
"Ace In The Hole", and
"Right or Wrong".
He has continued to produce incredibly popular country albums throughout the 1990’s and well into the 21st century. His most successful album to date, 1996’s
Pure Country - declared platinum six times over by the RIAA - spawned the hit single
"Heartland", which remained on the Hot Country Songs chart for an incredible twenty weeks. George Strait released his most recent album,
Troubadour, in April 2008. The album sold a chart-topping 166,000 copies in only its first week, and is well on its way to becoming just as much of a classic as the rest of his work.
