The Canadian alternative rock band finger Finger Eleven started out with an even stranger name. Formed by founding members Scott Anderson, James Black, Rick Jackett, Sean Anderson, and Rob Gommerman in 1994, the band originally billed itself as The Rainbow Butt Monkeys and sported a unique psychedelic funk-metal sound. As the band began gaining exposure throughout Canada, they began to believe that they could be more successful if they changed their name to something less…well, something that didn’t include the words "butt monkey".

The band changed their name to Finger Eleven and began recording new material, sporting a harder and edgier sound. They released their first album as Finger Eleven in 1997, Tip, which was released on Mercury Records and sold well in both Canada and the United States. Thanks to the popularity of their new album, Finger Eleven managed to snag tour dates with such rock heavyweights as Fuel and Creed. Finger Eleven’s success in the alt-rock genre continued with the release of their second album, The Greyest of Blue Skies, in 2000. Notable tracks include "Drag You Down" and "Stay In Shadow".

Finger Eleven’s greatest commercial success came with the release of their third and self-titled album in 2004. The album reached #96 on the Billboard 200 and the coveted #1 spot on the Canadian Albums chart. Thanks to singles "Good Times" and "One Thing", the album sold over 600,000 copies worldwide.
