After taking a three-year break from recording, Faith returned to the studio and began to experiment with a more mainstream-pop sound. The formula worked, and her next three albums -
Faith,
Breathe, and
Cry - together sold over 13 million copies worldwide. Though some country purists derided Hill for altering her country sound, she nonetheless retained most of her traditional fan base and became a huge crossover success in mainstream music circles, with chart- topping singles like
This Kiss,
Breathe, and
When The Lights Go Down, all of which charted on the
Billboard Top 200.
In 2005 Faith reinvented herself yet again by returning to her country roots with her 6th original studio album,
Fireflies. Featuring top country singles
The Lucky One,
Stealing Kisses, and
Mississippi Girl, the album reached the coveted #1 spot on both the Billboard 200 and Top Country Albums charts - among only a handful of records to do so. She is still happily married to Tim McGraw, and rumor has it that the
duo plan to record an album together by 2009.
