Stone’s musical career ground to an abrupt halt in the late 1990’s, when a series of health problems (including heart surgery, the removal of a malignant tumor in his nose, and a 1999 plane crash) prevented him from touring or recording. After being dropped from Epic and releasing two lackluster albums on different record labels (1999’s
Make Up In Love on
Atlantic, 2002’s
The Long Way on
Audium), Stone signed to his current label,
Lofton Creek Records - a thriving independent label home to a number of high-profile country artists, including
Mark Chesnutt and
Carmen Rasmusen.
The singer has so far released two albums on Lofton Creek, 2005’s
In a Different Light and 2007’s
My Turn. The new albums often feature re-recordings of some of his older hits, as well as new tracks like
"Time",
"Everything", and
"She Always Gets What She Wants". Hoping to increase his popularity as a live act, Stone will be touring across the United States throughout summer 2008, even making an appearance at the upcoming
CMA Music Festival in June.
