Danielle Marie Peck was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina in 1978, though she spent most of her childhood in Coshocton, Ohio. She was born into a family with deep musical roots - her father’s parents had been country musicians who played at events throughout Appalachia, while relatives on her mother’s side were members of a traveling gospel choir - so it came as no surprise that Danielle was a naturally gifted singer, citing Reba McEntire and Johnny Cash as early influences.

After graduating high school in 1996, Peck formed a band with the close support of her parents and moved to Nashville, Tennessee in pursuit of a musical career. Her strong, smoky voice invited comparisons to the likes of Shania Twain and Faith Hill, making her a popular local act. While performing nightly at clubs and honkey tonks, the tall brunette bombshell kept her head above water working as a waitress and writing songs for a local label by day. In 2005 she met music executive Scott Borchetta, who signed the talented young singer to DreamWorks Records (Toby Keith, Jessica Andrews) in 2005.

Though DreamWorks Records folded in early 2006 due to restructuring by its parent label Universal Music Group, Borchetta persuaded Peck to follow him to his own independent label, Big Machine Records, along with up-and-coming country vocalists Taylor Swift and Sunny Sweeney. Danielle released her first record Danielle Peck later that year on Big Machine; a successful freshman effort, the album produced three hit singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs index: "I Don’t", "Findin' a Good Man", and "Isn’t That Everything".
