The secret to pop-punk outfit Paramores success has nothing to do with catchy melodies or fun lyrics - though theres no shortage of either in their music. No disrespect to drummer Zac Farro, guitarist Josh Farro, or bassist Jeremy Davis, but Paramores main attraction is its spunky orange-haired singer, nineteen year old Hayley Williams. With looks that could give Britney Spears or Christina Aguilara a run for their money - not to mention a powerful voice and charismatic stage presence that could go toe-to-toe with other female rockers like Gwen Stefani or Avril Lavigne - Hayley is the main ingredient in Paramores recipe for greatness.Originally formed by Hayley (then receiving lessons from esteemed vocal coach Brett Manning, who has worked with the likes of Taylor Swift and Keith Urban) and the Farro brothers in 2004, Paramore began as a bunch of teenagers jamming out in a garage. The Franklin, Tennessee-based foursome - named Paramore after both the maiden name of a former bassist and the French word for lover, paramour - soon began to branch out of their hometown, playing shows throughout the South by 2005. The bands big break occurred in April 2005, when John Janick of Florida indie label Fueled By Ramen (Gym Class Heroes, Panic at the Disco) signed Paramore after witnessing the band perform at a packed venue in Orlando. With a shiny new recording contract firmly in hand the band traveled back to Orlando, Florida later on in 2005 to begin recording their debut album, All We Know Is Falling. Though colored by the sudden departure of the bands bassist Jeremy Davis (who has since rejoined the band), Paramore still managed to finish recording All We Know Is Falling in just 3 weeks - a pretty quick turnaround time for a bunch of teenagers from Tennessee. The album (no doubt fueled by the bands solid live performances and Hayleys undeniable sex appeal) has managed to sell over 232,000 copies to date, producing three singles in the form of Pressure, "Emergency", and All We Know. Basking in the success off All We Know is Falling, Paramore toured extensively throughout 2006, touring as the opening act for The Rocket Summer as well as playing the entire Vans Warped Tour circuit. In early 2007 - after receiving heaps of praise from major music magazines like Kerrang! and NME - Paramore once again returned to the studio to begin working on their second album, Riot!, which saw a June 2007 release. Topping the considerable success of their debut album, Riot! peaked at #15 on the Billboard 200, eventually earning Gold certification from the RIAA and a Grammy nod for Best New Artist in 2008 - though the band lost that award to troubled English songstress Amy Winehouse. Standout tracks from Riot! include "Misery Business", "Crushcrushcrush", and "Thats What You Get". Paramore went through something of an internal crisis in 2008, canceling a few tour dates and going on a hiatus that only lasted a few weeks, much to the delight of the bands legions of loyal fans. Paramore will continue to tour throughout 2008, and may begin working on a third album before the years end. Both Hayley and Josh have hinted that they may pursue an indie rock sound (citing Mew and The Arcade Fire as influences) for their third album, which they hope to release in summer 2009.
