Hatesphere

Biography

Hatesphere is a metal band hailing from Arhaus, the second-largest city in Denmark. The band has become well known outside of European metal circles for their uncanny ability to blend the forbidding vocals of death metal with both heavy metal harmonies and thrash metal grooves, giving Hatesphere an instantly recognizable sound all their own. Though Hatesphere's lineup has shifted over the years, the band's current roster includes dual guitarists Peter "Pepe" Lyse Hansen and Jakob Nyholm, bassist Mixen Lindberg, drummer Dennis Buhl, and frontman Jonathan "Joller" Albrechtsen.

After forming in 2000, Hatesphere released a self-titled EP on independent Italian metal label Scarlet Records (Necrodeath, Dragonhammer) in mid-2001. Hatesphere made waves in European metal circles, prompting the band to release their second album Bloodred Hatred in 2002 followed by a mini-CD entitled Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Black in 2003. During this time Hatesphere toured extensively across Europe, winning the award for Best Live Band at the 2003 Danish Metal Awards.

The band's cred in the international metal scene swelled with each release, among them the 2004 album Ballet of the Brute and their 2005 EP The Killing. In mid-2005 Hatebreed's undeniable chemistry led to a deal with Steamhammer Records (a subdivision of German superlabel SPV GmbH), home to a number of notable metal acts including Motorhead, Judas Priest, and Iced Earth. Hatesphere released their first Steamhammer album The Sickness Within in late 2005; harder and faster than their earlier offerings, the raw power of The Sickness Within is showcased in tracks like "Reaper of Life" and "White Fever".

After touring aggressively with acts like Morbid Angel and Soilwork throughout 2006, Hatesphere returned to the studio in 2007 to produce their fifth and most recent record, Serpent Smiles and Killer Eyes. Another solid release by one of Denmark's premier metal outfits, notable songs from Serpent Smiles and Killer Eyes include "Feeding the Demons", "Damned Below Judas", and "Drinking with The King of the Dead".

From Discogs:

Hatesphere was originally formed at Cauterized in Denmark in 1993 by Jesper Moesgaard (drums), Claus Nielsen (vocals) and Frantz Dhin (guitar). The band rehearsed and eventually changed their name to Necrosis. They were soon joined by Peter Lyse Hansen (guitar) and in 1994 they made their live debut at a Danish music contest. In 1995 Frantz had to move and was replaced by Jespers' brother Jan. But he did, however, manage to play bass on their first demo, "Condemned Future", they recorded at Borsing Recordings in Aarhus. Later the same he eventually came back and as fulltime bassist. In 1996 they did a few live shows and shortly after Claus was kicked out of the band. In 1997 they were joined by Jacob Bredahl (vocals) who had heard they were looking for a new vocalist. They then recorded the second demo, "Disconnected '97", which showed great improvement. In 1998 the third demo, "Spring'98", was released and sent out to various labels, but nothing happened. In 1999 Frantz was kicked out and replaced by Mikael Ehlert Hansen. They also made a song for the compilation album, "Extremity Rising Vol. 4". In 2000 Jan was replaced by Ziggy and the band changed name to HateSphere. They also recorded their self-titled album, "HateSphere", which was released in 2001 by Italian Scarlet Records. Before the release Morten Toft Hansen had replaced the only original member left on drums, Jesper Moesgaard. In 2002 they released their second album, "Bloodred Hatred", and shortly after Ziggy was replaced by Henrik Bastrup Jacobsen of Koldborn. A lot of concerts, tours and festivals followed and in 2003 Morten Toft Hansen was replaced by Anders Gyldenøhr. At the end of the year they released the EP "Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Black". It was followed by the third album, "Ballet of the Brute", which was released in 2004.
