Raul "Alexis" Ortiz and Joel "Fido" Martinez have been a musical team since childhood. The duo met in elementary school, and were just youngsters when the reggaeton sound broke into Puerto Rico in the early 1990's. Alongside Juan "Wisin" Morera, Alexis and Fido began to perform in the underground reggaeton scene in their native town of Cayey from age 12, recording cassette tapes at home and selling them on the street. Though Alexis and Fido showed promise as a reggaeton duo, the pair stopped performing in the late 1990's; they were all but ignored by major producers because they weren't from the Carolina metropolitan area, at the time the epicenter of the growing Puerto Rican reggaeton movement.
Though the pair temporarily suspended their musical aspirations (with Alexis working odd jobs and Fido serving a tour of duty in the military) around 1997, they were brought back into the spotlight in 2000 by their childhood friend Wisin, who had risen to prominence as a member of the reggaeton act Wisin y Yandel. Wisin's connections in the reggaeton industry led Alexis and Fido to appear on a number of influential mixtapes by the likes of Daddy Yankee and Hector "El Father", with the duo winning fans in Puerto Rico and abroad with hit singles like 2005's "El Palo" and 2006's "El Tiburon". Alexis and Fido - also known as Los Pitbulls, due to the sound clips of dogs barking the pair often uses in skit and intro tracks - capitalized on their growing fame in 2005 by independently releasing their first album, The Pitbulls. Featuring hit singles "Tu No Sabes" and "Eso Ehh...!!!" The Pitbulls sold better than expected, rising to #4 on the Billboard Top Latin albums chart. Alexis and Fido formed their own label (Wild Dogz) in 2006, releasing their second album Los Reyes Del Perreo later on that year. Distributed by Sony BMG's Latin division, Los Reyes Del Perrero made the duo an international success, with tracks like "Me Quiere Basar" and "Gata Michu Michu" receiving airplay throughout the northern hemisphere. While reggaeton - taking a page from the vast majority of American urban music - often employs offensive and sexist lyrics, Alexis and Fido are notable for embracing their female fans, replacing misogyny with humor and wordplay. This, combined with their otherwise streetwise sound, has been the group's secret to success. Alexis & Fido released their third album Sobrenatural in late 2007, to rave reviews. Featuring appearances by Toby Love and De La Ghetto, Sobrenatural has so far produced three hit singles: "5 Letras", "Soy Igual Que Tu", and "Somos Tal Para Cual". Alexis and Fido plan to release an extended version of Sobrenatural, Sobrenatural Upgraded 2.0, sometime in late 2008.Alexis & Fido, often nicknamed Los Pitbulls or Los Reyes Del Perreo, are a reggaeton duo from Puerto Rico.
